Meet Frances Dufflar-Garcia | LA Valley Moms

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in Los Angeles?

Born in L.A but was raised and grew up in Miami. I have lived in L.A for 12 years.

Child(ren) and Age(s)?

1 daughter and she is 6 years old.

One thing people would be surprised to know about you…

I collect Funko Pop toys of my favorite movies and television shows.

Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?

I did not understand the phrase, “It takes a village”until I had my baby. I am grateful to many close friends that have always provided guidance and support on this crazy journey. I would like to specifically thank my daughter’s preschool teacher, Aiza Kalanjian.
When my daughter started preschool, she was 2 years old. Aiza taught Emma her ABC’s, numbers, shapes, and even reading. She even potty trained her for me. If I had an emergency, I could count on Aiza for help watching her. She would also provide me with learning tools I could use at home to continue the lessons she was giving her at the preschool.
By the time Emma entered Kindergarten, she had a head start on the curriculum. She learned and grew so much from having Aiza as a teacher. When someone shows so much love and care towards your child, you are forever grateful.

Favorite things to do with your daughter?

We love going to reading and art time at our local public library, the movies, and going to the farmers market. My daughter and I also enjoy day trips to the Science Museum. It is very interactive and you can always find something new.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

The Van Nuys Public Library is a place where Emma and I spend a lot of time. There are always different monthly events and speakers. It is a great opportunity to interact with leaders and people that live in my area. It also has become a great place to pick up reading handouts and resources on what is currently happening in the community, such as projects and initiatives.
Recently, my daughter joined a Girl Scouts troop in Van Nuys. There are monthly activities planned around learning and volunteering in our community. This will also be a great opportunity to be more involved in the community.
